A VETERAN of the First World War shared his memories with students during a special visit to Bedale High School.
Henry Allingham, aged 111, was at the school to answer questions about his life and enthralled his young audience - some of then 100 years his junior.

Headteacher, Graham Turner said: "It's a real honour and a privilege to meet Mr Allingham. It's living history today - turning a page in 20th century history."

Mr Allingham is a founder member of the Royal Air Force and delighted more than 30 students with his boyhood memories of Queen Victoria and tales of his exploits during the war.

One 15 year old student said: "It was amazing. Not many people get the chance to meet somebody that old. It was great to hear his stories - quite emotional."

The previouis day, Mr Allingham had attended a special dinner at RAF Leeming to mark the 90th anniversary of the RAF.
