Northallerton College is set to be transformed into the beaches of Hawaii for the day. And, as part of the celebrations, fair-goers will be ensured of a smashing time on a pottery breaking stall while staff and students show off their bad taste in brightly-coloured shirts and flower garlands.

The annual fete will also feature a host of stalls, games, music and a sand castle building competition. The event, on July 16, from 1.30pm-6pm, is open to the whole community.

Northallerton College has forged close links over the years with the Dales Special School who will be attending the event. Proceeds will go to Mencap and to student funds.

Organiser Sara-Jane Craddock said: "It is going to be great fun and we want as many people as possible to turn up.

"We hope it will be supported by everyone in the community."

Fellow organiser Sam Toothill added: "We will be making palm trees for that authentic Hawaiian feel and the event also ties in with a similarly themed non-uniform day."
