SECOND plays bottom tomorrow with THIRSK captain Dave Towse eyeing a step towards the promised land of York Senior Premier League survival with a full point victory.
Despite their current strong position Towse’s first aim is to break the 200-point barrier starting tomorrow with Thirsk gearing up for the trip to basement boys Malton & Old Malton (1.30pm start).
Thirsk will be firm favourites to wipe away a side currently staring Division One straight in the face but with their hot shot Aussie Jonathon Davies firing on all cylinders this summer Towse is still warning against complacency.
“He’s a wicket we’ve got to target,” he said.
“By the looks of it he’s been getting runs for them all season. He’s in really good form so we need to try and get him early and then make in-roads into them.
“They’re down there at the moment but like last season we were struggling and then we went on that run of form so anything can happen.
“We know who their dangerman is we’ll just have to target him. But we’re coming into the game confident, we were rained off last week but now we’re in a good position in the table.
“But for us it’s another important game. We need to make sure we’re safe before we start looking at anything else first. To be safe we need to get over 200 points as quickly as possible.
“Saturday is important because we know we have a good chance of doing that. It will be difficult but if we play to our potential I see no reason why we can’t do it.”
On Saturday Towse admitted the only sustained action for both sides was around the tea table with their proposed fixture against Easingwold postponed due to the wet weather.
“I’d managed to win the toss and then I’d just managed to mark my run up and then we were called off,” continued Towse.
“I think the only real highlight was the tea and that was about it.
“It was a shame but I suppose the one good thing about it was everyone else was rained off too.
“It wouldn’t have been good if we were called off and somebody else got in a game.
“Looking at the bottom it was a shame for Malton and Hull that their game was called off.
