DIVISIONAL champions Bridlington Bulls proved too strong for Northallerton Stallions in their latest Co-operative Rugby League Conference Yorkshire Division outing, Stallions beaten 66-8 at Brompton Lodge.
Northallerton got off to another bad start as the Bulls racked up three tries in the first 10 minutes all converted to take an early 18–0 lead.

The Stallions then found their feet and pushed their opponents hard in a 15 minute period during which
they produced some good rugby.

They were rewarded on 25 minutes when second row Simon Williamson intercepted to score out on the right, man of the match Rob Johnson pushing the conversion attempt wide.

Unfortunately Northallerton could not maintain the intensity and despite hooker Don Payne going over the whitewash, an ever-improving Stallions were unable to challenge their visitors.

Head coach Steve Worsnop was keen to put the game into perspective.

“Today’s game demonstrates very clearly where we are at here at the Stallions,”

“Bridlington are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year – we aren’t even 25 weeks old!

“There are no short cuts and the guys are progressing week on week.

“It’s also very important to realise that Bridlington draw a large part of their squad from the Hull winter league clubs.

“These guys have experience by the bucketful.

“We are developing ‘new to the sport’ players from our own catchment area so whilst we will struggle against sides like Bridlington in the short term, we will eventually have a home grown side who are capable of competing against them.

“We believe that is the best way to grow a successful club.”

A trip to Scarborough Pirates is next up for the Stallions tomorrow.

The coach leaves The Standard (opposite Sainsbury’s in Northallerton) at 11am. All seats are £5.
